Problem
Parents of CICU patients are under high stress. This stress is amplified by the waiting and frequent separations from their child in the process of care. Current waiting spaces and communication methods do not appear to be adequate to relieve this stress.
One-third of parents with a child in the ICU have clinically significant symptoms of acute stress disorder: depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder (Davidson, 2012). This stress affects the emotional and mental experiences in family waiting rooms, therefore, affecting patient recovery and patient satisfaction (Jones, 2012)
value STATEMENT
Children's Healthcare of Atlanta (CHOA) will benefit from our application by leveraging additional personalized support for families with patients in the ICU. Ideally, the application will be utilized by the entire organization in order to create a holistic network of care. Studies have shown that a patient’s overall satisfaction rating is impacted by his/her perception of care during wait time (Arneill, 2002). These features will help coordinate patient care and facilitate a better understanding of hospital practices and the need for personal care.
project OBJECTIVE
